In the production of wheat flour, the flour extraction rate is the “barometer” of flour production status, since it reflects the pros and cons of the wheat flour production and flour quality. Stable flour extraction rate means flour quality is relatively stable, which can compensate for the shortcoming that small flour milling factory does not have test conditions. The flour mill operator shall test the flour yield rate frequently during production. If the equipment runs abnormally, operator shall detect timely, so as to promote yield increase and flour quality improve. It is not obvious to judge flour extraction rate by flour color, but the bran shape and wheat middling color are sensitive to flour yield, even little flour extraction rate change can cause sharp variation to bran shape and wheat middling color.

If the equipment works normally, the bran will have uniform size, no endosperm particle, no flour attachment, and be dark yellow. If the bran flake is too large, the roll clearance of bran mill must be too wide, and the flour extraction rate decreases; if the bran flake is too small, roll clearance of bran mill must be too narrow, ultimately the flour extration rate increases. When the bran flakes are ununiform, the roll clearances of the 2 sides of bran mill must be distinct: if the bran adheres too much flour and appear white, it is probably cause by too wide roll clearance of core mill and flour extration rate decrease; if the bran flakes contain endosperm particles, it may be cause by different clearances of core mill roll two sides, or core mill clutch is not switched on.

Therefore, when operating flour milling machine, it is important to frequently observe the bran and wheat middling to judge the flour extraction rate change, in order to take measures ASAP. The small flour milling plant unit has severe equipment shake, so it can cause roll clearance to loosen or tighten, finally cause change to flour extraction rate. In daily production, operator shall often check flour mill roll clearance, and timely correct the roll clearance.
